Dr. Loretta Felder McKelvey
Dr. Loretta Felder McKelvey is a native of Sumter, South Carolina. She completed high school in Lexington, Virginia. She is a graduate of Old Dominion University and the Howard University College of Dentistry. After graduation from Howard in 1982, she was commissioned an officer in the US Public Health Service. She served in the area of migrant health in Tampa, Florida, until returning to South Carolina in 1985 to serve as dental director for Midlands Primary Health Care, Inc. in Eastover and Winnsboro.
In 1988, Dr. Felder founded University Dental, a family dental practice in the Five Points area of Columbia. Because of its close proximity to the university and colleges in town, the practice saw many students. For Dr. Felder, one of the most gratifying outcomes of the original location is that many of the students that visited the Five Points office in the early years have remained connected and have brought into the practice their spouses and now their children. She has truly become the family dentist that she aspired to be.
Dr. Felder has achieved the award of Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry; she is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, a member of CDP-25 at the University of Florida, and a lifelong student of dentistry. She is a member of the Palmetto Dental Study Club, the Columbia Dental Implant Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, an active member of the South Carolina Dental Association, and a member of the American Dental Association.
Dr. Felder is a volunteer at the Richland County Children's Dental Clinic and involved with many community and civic organizations in the Midlands. She is a member of Francis Burns United Methodist Church. She and her husband, Walter, reside in Columbia.
