Dental Health Questions & Answers

  • Several of my friends have expressed an interest in whitening their teeth. Why would I want to do this?

Have you ever heard the expression, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"? Bleaching is a personal choice. If you are curious about how your smile rates with your self-image, please go to the Forms section of our website and complete the Smile Analysis. We look forward to hearing from you.

  • I am deathly afraid of the dentist. I would really like to be put to sleep. Do you put people to sleep?

Dental fears and phobias are not uncommon. We first remind our patients that their dental care is a partnership with our practice, and they are in control. We perform no treatment without your consent. We borrow from our pediatric colleagues in the so-called "show, tell and do method." For patients who are unable to overcome their anxiety, nitrous oxide analgesia, or "laughing gas," is available, as well as oral premedication. We look forward to seeing you soon!

  • My gums bleed when I floss or brush, and I am afraid to have someone cleaning my teeth because the gums are already sore. What would your office do?

Healthy tissue will not bleed while performing the routine home care procedures that you have described. We first review your medical history to find out about your overall health; we look for any medications or illnesses that may impact your dental health. We then perform a thorough dental exam to check the overall health of your teeth and gums along with an exam for oral pathology. The findings of the examination determine the next step. Please call to schedule an appointment today.

  • I need dental care, but it is expensive, and I don't want to get into that kind of financial obligation right now. What do you suggest?

Prolonging the wait for needed dental treatment can result in small problems becoming bigger ones. Your dental health did not deteriorate overnight. The approach to optimal oral health is a journey; education is the first step. Make the first step by finding out what your exact problems are. Schedule an appointment for an examination. After the examination, you, in consultation with one of our doctors, can develop a treatment plan specific to your needs.

Our treatment coordinator can help you develop a financial strategy for proceeding with treatment, if this is your desire. We look forward to hearing from you!
